Vullnet Jakupi
Creative Director of Prishtina Biennale
Vullnet Jakupi is an emerging force in the Kosovar art scene, serving as the Creative Director of the Prishtina Biennale. With a practice that spans curation, community-engaged projects, and visual programming, Jakupi brings energy, innovation, and a profound commitment to expanding what a Biennale can be in both scope and reach.
His work is rooted in stories of place, everyday life, and the transformation of ordinary spaces into sites of meaning. Among his commissions is What After We Leave, a project realized in collaboration with the community-based initiative Në Duart Tona, which probes memory, landscape, migration and the often unseen emotional terrain left behind when people depart from places they once called home.
As Creative Director, Jakupi has helped shape Prishtina Biennale’s vision to be more than an exhibition—he sees it as a platform that encourages participation, transparency, and creative activism. Under his direction, the Biennale’s programs aim to challenge conventions, foreground local narratives while engaging international conversation, and give space to emerging artists alongside more established voices.
