Dor Zlekha Levy

SALTANA

22.08.2022

Dor Zlekha Levy is a multimedia artist specializing in audiovisual installations, video art, and live performance. Sound is a central element in his work. His ongoing collaborations with musicians are vital to his creative process, from concept to installation. His creations echo forgotten traditions, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.

SALTANA is Dor Zlekha Levy’s first exhibition in Prishtina, presented by Paper Gallery with the Prishtina Biennale as part of the project “In Our Hands.” The exhibition includes five of his works: Ayooni, Harb, NOON, Prince Tarab, and UMK/OMEK.

Kosovo is known as a place of religious and cultural diversity. In this context, Paper Gallery and the Prishtina Biennale—located in the heart of the city, surrounded by the Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa, the Imperial Mosque, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the National Library, and the University of Prishtina—provide the perfect setting for this artwork and naturally draw the attention of passersby. The influence of Turkish and Arab traditions in Kosovo may allow people to recognize the Arabic elements in the song, but the question remains: will they also be able to recognize the Hebrew language?

The central focus of this exhibition is cultural knowledge exchange and storytelling, expressed through mediums that are modern and contemporary in the art world, yet essential in the context of Kosovo. The final work in the exhibition, UMK/OMEK, was simultaneously broadcast across three different spaces and four different time intervals: Paper Radio, Paper Gallery, and the entrance hall of Paper House.
