Paper Gallery, together with the Prishtina Biennale, in collaboration with HIVE, and as part of the project “In Our Hands”, organized the screening of the film “Hive”, directed by Blerta Basholli, on Thursday, May 12.
On Friday, May 13, a panel discussion was held with members of Paper Gallery alongside the film’s creative team. “Hive” won three awards at the Sundance Film Festival on February 3, 2021. The awards brought home to Kosovo by the film were: the Audience Award, the Grand Jury Prize – World Cinema Dramatic, and the Directing Award – World Cinema Dramatic.
Paper Gallery with the Prishtina Biennale became the first gallery to screen a feature-length artistic film in a gallery space.
“Hive” tells the story of Fahrije, a young woman whose husband is missing from the war. She starts a small agricultural business to ensure her family’s survival in a traditional patriarchal environment, where her ambition for progress is not welcomed. While her agricultural work begins to succeed, the bees she tends remain chaotic and aggressive towards her. In her struggle to find peace with the bees in her hives, Fahrije gradually discovers peace within herself—learning how to live, grow, and face a reality that is far from friendly to her.
